Challenges posed by Terrorism to Pakistan's National Security

Abstract

Since joining the United States as a front-line ally in the fight against terrorism, Pakistan is the only nation that has been significantly impacted by terrorism. Pakistan entered the war to remove the worldwide isolation it was experiencing as a result of the nuclear testing in 1998 and to get over the sanctions in order to obtain both economic and military support. The worst miscalculation Pakistan made was to join the fight on terrorism, as it had both immediate and long-term effects. As a result of these actions, terrorism was imported to Pakistan. To combat this terrorism, Pakistan's armed forces engaged in numerous battles within its own borders, which led to institutional instability and sparked socioeconomic problems that have persisted to afflict the country. The emergence of terrorism and extremism in the nation deeply worries the United States. Now more than ever, Pakistan must keep its own interests in mind, pay closer attention to the most difficult security problems it has, and ensure that no other nation exploits the current scenario for its own strategic gain.
